The idea was brilliant. Send two surfers – one of the world’s best in big waves, and one of the world’s best all-around – for a massive swell at an incredibly dangerous surf spot, get them to catch the same wave, shoot a photo and you’re done. Just like that, you’ve got the most interesting — and coincidentally, the most dangerous — surf image ever taken. On Friday, August 1st, a photo that had to that point only been a dream, suddenly turned to reality.
Beauty and the Beast – Maya Gabeira tames Teahupoo
Its hard to believe this tiny, gorgeous women enjoys nothing more than charging giant waves. When you meet her she does not really espouse the big wave image. But she does love charging these waves as we witnessed when she paddled Dungeons here a few years ago. After a savage beating at Teahupoo in 2011, Maya has now returned to conquer the beast…
Shipsterns Bluff – The Original Mega Slab
Welcome to Tasmania and the original Slab Wave from hell! With some of the new discoveries the last few years we tend to forget about Shipsterns Bluff, but I cam across this video with footage from the last few years and it all came back to me. Sit back, hold your breath and remember why this is one of the heaviest waves on the planet! (Check out the guy getting owned in the impact zone at the end, my lungs hurt for him!)

Koa Rothman and the Code Black Beast of Teahupoo
The beast awoke on May 13th with solid 20ft waves exploding on the reef at Teahupoo. A large portion of the world’s best big wave hell brigade were there to charge the horrific pits, but it was young Hawaiian charger, Koa Smith with the bomb and possibly one of the biggest, ugliest tubes ever ridden. The first video gives you the personal front row seats, the second is slightly further back, but just take a look at what happens behind the wave. Very Scary! Then watch the swell grow through the day, with the chaos in the channel in the last video…

New Age Tow Skimboard with Brad Domke
Brad Domke is redefining what can be done on a skimboard. But what should it be called? Tow-in finless surfing? Tow in skimboarding? Skurfing?? Awesomeboarding?????
What do you think?
Bodyboard versus Surf – Red Bull Tow Out Session
Bodyboard vs Surf. This is the motivation behind the Red Bull Tow Out Session where Hugo Pinheiro and Vasco Ribeiro go head to head doing their thing. Between broken boards, some great aerials, and some rivalry, in the end only you will be able to decide who was more impressive.
