Satori – A South African Big Wave Film

Matt Bromley at Dungeons. Satori Film

Satori Shows South African Big Waves

The South African big wave community have been charging both at home and around the planet for many years. Surfers like Grant Twig Baker, who just won the Nazare Challenge, focused the eyes of the world on the spots in and around Cape Town. Sunset Reef and Dungeons are the focal point of that attention. Satori, the new film by Rick Wall, tells the stories of the surfers who have pioneered these spots and that of the new generation of chargers.

Heavy Waters

The big waves of the Cape have a fearsome reputation for good reason. Giant, powerful swells out of the Antarctic Ocean slam into the Cape Peninsula, the water is frigidly cold and the world’s biggest oceanic predator, the Great White, petrols the waters. The surfers who push themselves in these waters are a special breed. Satori will take you into their lives and their passion for big waves.

Legends of the Cape

The movie does not just cover surfers who are famous world wide, like two time Big Wave World Champion, Grant Twig Baker, and adventure legend, Chris Bertish. It will also show you into the somewhat mystical pioneers, like Pierre De Villiers and Mickey Duffus. The new school of guys like Matt Bromley and Jeremy Johnson are also covered. This film will take you into the tight knit community and show you their lives.

Andy: The Untold Story of Andy Irons – Trailer

If there is one documentary every surfer on the planet is waiting to watch, it has to be this one. Andy Irons was a force of nature – Wild, unrelenting and unpredictable, but his surfing was a thing of beauty! He had a massive impact on the world of professional surfing, going from the wild child to a three time world champion and becoming Kelly Slater’s greatest rival at a time when no one could compare to the 9 time world champ. When you see the emotion from everyone in this film you realise how much Andy effected theirs and our lives. This one is going to be an emotional roller coaster!

View from a Blue Moon – The surf movie everyone wants to watch!

Probably the most anticipated surf film in history. View from a Blue Moon is the latest project from John Florence and Blake Kueny and the talk is that it will change the game as far as surf cinema is concerned. John os one of the most electrifying surfers on the planet and he also takes his film parts very seriously. Added bonus is that a lot of SA appears in the film with both the West Coast and East coast featuring, as well as John’s SA surf guide, Frank Solomon. I for one cannot wait to see the full film.

See the sport of surfing as it’s never been captured before in John Florence and Blake Vincent Kueny’s second signature release, in association with award-winning film studio, Brain Farm. The first surf film shot entirely in 4K, View From a Blue Moon (http://ViewFromABlueMoon.com) follows the world’s most dynamic surfer John Florence and his closest friends from his home on the North Shore of Oahu to his favorite surfing destinations around the globe. From the dreamy blue perfection of the South Pacific to the darkest uncharted waters of Africa (and everywhere in between), Florence faces a broad spectrum of emotions as he continues to seal his legacy as one of the most gifted surfers ever. And while the young Hawaiian is pulled in increasingly different directions, there is no form of pressure that will keep him from his ultimate goal — to redefine what is possible in the ocean.

View From A Blue Moon will be digitally released through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, M-Go, Vimeo On Demand, and other digital platforms as well as DVD/Blu-ray on December 1 with worldwide premieres taking place on November 11 and 12. Pre-order is available now through Vimeo On Demand and DVD/Blu-ray on http://shop.brainfarmcinema.com.

2015 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach Preview

We always get excited about Bells. The iconic event seems to deliver those magic moments that create legends and start World Title campaigns. The bad news is, the forecast this year is looking pretty dismal. You can almost guarantee that Day 1 will be surfed and then the long wait will begin. In fact we may see alternate venues come into play and that may well change up how your Fantasy Pick go. One pick I have for sure, Jordy Smith. He was looking in great form at Snapper till he got skunked by waves and if you remember back to small Bells last year he was killing it, till the robbery against Julian Wilson. Check the video below and relive the horror of Jordy not getting the score. I am pretty sure this footage still haunts Richie Porter late at night… (Jordy has the package, we know about the turns, but don’t forget the air game, as seen above.)

Filipe Toledo was in sublime form at Snapper and you can bet with a small wave forecast for Bells he will be deadly. Mick Fanning is another guy worth watching. Wildcard, MAson Ho, is one hell of a surfer and could just surprise some of the big seeds. Ok, thats me preview, now you go select your own team.

Monster Energy Night Harvest Tonight in Hout Bay – Mtb and Bmx

This event is fast turning into Africa’s most prestigious dirt jump event with a host of international Bmx and Mtb riders coming to the sleepy village of Hout Bay to compete at the Potato Trails. They wont have it all their way though as a strong local contingent, spearheaded by Mo Peters and Greg Illingworth, fight to defend SA honors. The event gets underway at 7pm, but get there early for the best seats. Catch myself and US MC, Catfish on the mic.
