I have been waiting with baited breath for this video, much like I waited for a long time to be able to get to this wildly popular event. The Cobbles Classic brings us back to a time where riding waves was all about style, flow and most importantly the love of riding waves. Single fin logs only, no leashes and a focus on old school longboard riding make it a very unique event. I had a great time, Surfed a few heats and basked in the collective love of an amazing time. Enjoy the video…
RVCA Swimwear 2015 Video with Mahina Alexander
Technically this one is for the ladies as RVCA launch their new swimwear collection, but I am pretty sure the gents will not mind watching. The RVCA Swim Summer ’15 Lookbook featuring RVCA Advocate Mahina Alexander in Montauk, NY.

Majestic Barrels at P-Pass with Jay Davies
By now you should have seen at least one super session of video from the magical right hander in Micronesia. One of the most expensive and longest trips as a South African surfer, but hells, just watch this session with Jay Davies and you will be booking tickets and packing your bags! P-Pass is simply mind blowing.

RVCA Rolling Retro 2015 Video with Vans
I always appreciate a great video of the RVCA Rolling Retro day, as most times I am so busy on the day behind the scenes, on the mic and sneaking in my heat, that I miss a bunch of highlights. I am sure Robby, from Vudu Surf, feels the same way. It’s tough sometimes running the event. So when a video drops on my timeline like this, I get real stoked! The crew from We-are-Awesome, with Vans, captured our day perfectly. So sit back and watch a magical event on film and maybe like me you will get goosebumps thinking back on the best day of the year…

Congrats Makua Rothman – Big Wave World Champion
The Big Wave World Tour did not have the best season with many of the “Jewel” events not running, but there were some crazy events and there must be a World Champion. With solid performances in the contests that did run and with one of the craziest drops in competition history, Hawaiian, Makua Rothman was named the Big Wave World Champion for 2014/15.
“We take our sport seriously and we want to be at that elite level,” says Makuakai Rothman about the world’s perception of surfers. We’re not beach bums. We train. We want to win.
And this year Makuakia Rothman wanted to win the WSL’s Big Wave Tour.
RVCA Rolling Retro Postponed to 01 March 2015
Llandudno, Cape Town – The 2015 instalment of the RVCA Rolling Retro surf event has been postponed by one week, to 1 March 2015, with the forecast conditions for this Sunday 22 February looking far from ideal.
There is a very real worry that the surfboard collection will be damaged, and that large surf at Llandudno could result in irreplaceable surfboards possibly being broken. So it is in respect to this heritage collection of surfboards that the event will be postponed by one week.
There is also the family element to consider. “The swell is expected to be big this Sunday, and puts us in a place where it might not be ideal for the kids, ladies and casual surfers,” said contest director Kai Linder. “We have decided to postpone till next Sunday, 01 March 2015.”
So, another week of anticipation. The retro surfboards, supplied by Robby from Vudu Surf www.facebook.com/VuduSurf are ready, and the handslides, made by Wawa Wooden Surfboards www.facebook.com/pages/Wawa-Wooden-Surfboards/131058550324846 are also ready and available for the bodysurfers.
On Sunday 01 March the day’s festivities will be based around the Llandudno Surf Lifesaving Club, and the event helps raise funds for the club. Check out the Facebook Event Page for more details – www.facebook.com/events/772227866197463/
Robby from Vudu has about 50 vintage boards from his personal collection on hand for the event. From original Whitmore longboards and a 7’6 Whitmore Spoon, to Safaris, Larmonts, a Gerry Lopez Pipeline single fin, and a bunch of other classic boards for the surfers to choose from. It’s a fun event, and surfers are going to win by combining old school style and retro moves, with positioning and style.
The RVCA Rolling Retro 2015 will also, for the first time, feature a Bodysurfing division. There are slots for 40 bodysurfers in this division, with ten wooden Wawa handslides available for contestants to use in the competition. Bodysurfing is the art of riding a wave without the assistance of any buoyant device such as a surfboard or a bodyboard. All that a bodysurfer needs is a set of fins, with a handslide providing increased speed and less drag. The bodysurfing event will award three El Jimador agave handslides valued at R1,800 each for the three bodysurfers with the most stylish manoeuvres.
It is probably going to be a warm day at the beach, and the RVCA Rolling Retro is going to be one busy event. Parking is going to be scarce, and it is recommended that people utilise Uber www.uber.com/cities/cape-town or Myciti Bus services next Sunday to get down to the beach. Uber have taken it to the next level, offering R200 off to anyone going down to the event. Check promo code below:
Bring sunscreen, and bring some money, as it’s going to get hot down there, and drinks and food will be available.

There is also a great music lineup for the event, with RVCA partnering with Vans to present ‘Good Vibrations’ with a number of great local bands in the mix. The bands include Bilderberg Motel, The Dyna Jets, The Larter Brothers and Roastin’ Records.

RVCA Rolling Retro Presented By El Jimador Tequila Shares Date With World Margarita Day.
Llandudno, Cape Town – in a somewhat serendipitious twist of fate, the date set for the 2015 instalment of the RVCA Rolling Retro, is also the same day as the global Margarita Day. Continuing along the serendipity theme, the presenting sponsor of the RVCA Rolling Retro surf tournament is none other than El Jimador tequila.
The good people from El Jimador are also the people behind the Agave Surfboard project, initiated last year to great success. See the project video clip:
With so much happening on the 22 February, on what is bound to be a hot summer’s day, there’s also the possibility that there might be a few sneaky frozen margaritas on sale at the event. Remember that funds from the event go to the Llandudno Surf Life Saving Club.
The RVCA Rolling Retro surf event is presented by El Jimador, with Vans and Vudu Surf as supporting sponsors.

The #SecretBowl – Neptunes Death Squad Warmup
Recently a good mate built his own incredible backyard bowl. His birthday was coming up and I was asked to put on a “Nitro Circus” style show for the event using the Bowl. So I rounded up a posse of skaters and Bmx guys and we put on quite the show. This footage is from the 3 days before the show as the skaters were preparing for the show and getting to grips with the #SecretBowl – no frills or pretty shots, just good old skating!
Skaters:
Dallas Oberholzer
Adam Woolf
Martin Stoffberg
David Margreiter

RVCA JBU Super Trials 2014 Highlights
The RVCA JBU Super Trials were held last week in pretty fun looking and hollow Supertubes. With the winner getting a slot in the WCT Jbay Open, the game was on, between a great mix of old and young SA surf stars. Last years Jbay Open, which saw a great mix of old and young saw the old boys keep the grom challenge down, but this year was to be the year of the kids, with the whole final being under the age of 22. Local kid, Dylan Lightfoot ended up with the win and will now see his dream of competing against his heros at his home break come true. I will be covering the event and will keep you posted on how the local kid does.
RVCA Rolling Retro 2014 – Round up and Video
I am not going to wax lyrical to much here, but my God Rolling Retro truly is the best day of the year. Every year just gets better and better. We were blessed with great weather, insane waves and a crowd of people from kids to oldies intent on having the best day they could together. Big thanks to everyone who supported the event! Especially big thanks to RVCA, Vudu Surf, Red Bull and Carling Black Label and of course our forecast and media partner, Wavescape.
