The Return of John John Florence – Watch “Space”

John John Florence is back, sort of…

Surf fans around the planet had been languishing in the hopes that the prodigal son of surfing would return soon. The good news is that he has, if even just hy releasing some unseen footage. John John Florence is still injured, though rumors are rife we will see his return for Europe.

What makes him so good?

It was only when I started watching, Space, that I realised how much I had missed watching Mr Florence surf. He brings a certain wild freedom to the tour, a sense of abandon and noir that no other surf does. The video is dramatic, but it should be. John John’s surfing is dramatic, while at the same time incredibly relaxed. Simply put, the “Championship” tour has not quite been the same without him.

The People’s Champ – John John Florence

It took a few days to sink in really, that the World Title was done and dusted. It had been such a see saw year, with Matt Wilko holding on for months, then Gabriel fighting back, then John John into the lead and at the death we had, Jordy Smith, suddenly in the hunt right till the semi finals in Portugal. As a South African I would have loved to see Jordy taking the fight to Pipeline, but sitting in 3rd place he is in a great position for next year and we will take that. At the end of the day I don’t think there is a surfer on the planet unhappy right now, the most popular surfer in the world won the world title.

Lets make it plain, John John Florence is the people’s champ! More fans, more video views and more picks on Fantasy Surfer than any other guy. On top of this, the win does not just reflect on John, but on a whole family and clan of people that he travels with, lives with and adventures with. They all put so much energy and effort into what John has become that they all deserve some of the credit and the fantastic thing about it is, he gives it to them. Our new world champ is not only the best surfer in the world, but also the one with the most humility.

Congrats John! You are the man.

Lets be Frank – A surf Movie with a twist…

I have known Frank Solomon a long time. He is a good gent, the ladies love him and he is really, not scared at all, of massive, scary waves! So I am stoked that his new feature, with the team at Red Bull Media House, is launching this month and I am even more stoked I get to go watch the premier. This guy hangs out with the likes of John John Florence, Jamie O”Brien and Ben harper, so you can be sure of some serious surf action, great music and even comedy and laughs thanks to guys like Cokey Falkow and all Frank’s mates. Check out the trailer and remember you can win tickets to the Cape Town premier, see below!

Let’s Be Frank is a visceral journey through the unseen and unknown world of big wave surf adventurer Frank James Solomon, an intercontinental clandestine investigation blurring the lines between myth, legend and reality – leading to the question… Just who is Frank?

John John versus Jordy – Surf Video Battle

Ok, so John John drops the second video in his new Twelve series with Hurley and I watch it and it blows my mind. From huge waves, to doing massive punts in big waves to surfing Pipeline, he rips it all. By the end I actually said to my mate, I wonder when Jordy Smith is going to drop a boss edit like this again and true as all hell, a few days later he drops a new web video, with some insanely progressive power surfing. Pound for pound these two videos will get you frothing for your next surf (Or maybe not frothing as you realise how far ahead these two gents are!) Either way, prepare yourself for 20 minutes of radical surfing from my two favorite surfers to watch…

View from a Blue Moon – The surf movie everyone wants to watch!

Probably the most anticipated surf film in history. View from a Blue Moon is the latest project from John Florence and Blake Kueny and the talk is that it will change the game as far as surf cinema is concerned. John os one of the most electrifying surfers on the planet and he also takes his film parts very seriously. Added bonus is that a lot of SA appears in the film with both the West Coast and East coast featuring, as well as John’s SA surf guide, Frank Solomon. I for one cannot wait to see the full film.

See the sport of surfing as it’s never been captured before in John Florence and Blake Vincent Kueny’s second signature release, in association with award-winning film studio, Brain Farm. The first surf film shot entirely in 4K, View From a Blue Moon (http://ViewFromABlueMoon.com) follows the world’s most dynamic surfer John Florence and his closest friends from his home on the North Shore of Oahu to his favorite surfing destinations around the globe. From the dreamy blue perfection of the South Pacific to the darkest uncharted waters of Africa (and everywhere in between), Florence faces a broad spectrum of emotions as he continues to seal his legacy as one of the most gifted surfers ever. And while the young Hawaiian is pulled in increasingly different directions, there is no form of pressure that will keep him from his ultimate goal — to redefine what is possible in the ocean.

View From A Blue Moon will be digitally released through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, M-Go, Vimeo On Demand, and other digital platforms as well as DVD/Blu-ray on December 1 with worldwide premieres taking place on November 11 and 12. Pre-order is available now through Vimeo On Demand and DVD/Blu-ray on http://shop.brainfarmcinema.com.

Ghost Wave – West Coast perfection with Twig and Frank Solomon

Ok, so the video is actually an Ian Walsh project, but to be fair, Grant Twig Baker and Frank Solomon, the South African chargers, are rather prominent. The video was shot by surf cinematographer, star, Taylor Steele, and funded by Hullet Packard, hence the Hollywood feel. The boys charge some rather perfect looking, but extremely heavy waves up the West Coast.

Best Namibia video yet! Diamond of the Desert with LNF

By now we all know about the absolutely perfect, terrifying and mind blowing tubes on offer at a certain sandbar in Namibia. This video though will simply blow your mind and possibly induce you to make a voodoo doll of Koa Smith, as your jealousy levels may spike rather dramatically from watching the length and utter perfection of his tube rides. Sit down, take some deep breaths and just enjoy the view…

A LastNameFirst.tv short film feat. Koa Smith + Alex Smith, Travis Smith and Dylan Goodale.
In this arid African Desert, 1/5 of all the diamonds in the world exist. They were so common at one point that the locals could walk across the dunes on a full moon and spot them shimmering from a far. We went to this rumored place and found a diamond of our own.

Perfect P-Pass – Inside Out with the Koa and Alex Smith

This is one of those waves I dream about. To be honest I would have to put some serious training in to be able to handle it at this size. Would be worth every last minute of sacrifice and training though. As a natural footer, P-Pass has to be very near the top of your must surf before I die wave list. (Great track playing to.)

INSIDE OUT – Barreled from all angles in Micro… starring Alex & Koa Smith + Sam Martin.

West Oz Free Surf with John John Florence and Yadin Nicol

The boys have had some down time at the Drug Aware Pro at Margaret River, but that does not mean they have been sitting back eating pies and drinking beer (Though they probably did that too.) Some massive punts on this fun looking bowl.
