Welcome to Locked in Hellsend

What do you do when you’re locked down on the sickest farm in South Africa? Grab a shovel and get digging! When World Cup slayer, Theo Erlangsen, was lucky enough to get quarantined with young gun, Ike Klassen, on his farm in Stellenbosch, the boys stayed busy riding bikes and spraying dirt!

Locked in at Hellsend Dirt Compound is a 3-part series following The Trails Crew getting up to all kinds of good, bad and wild. Watch the boys riding dirt jumps, shredding some downhill laps and staying “almost too busy doing cool things the whole time!” These boys have all the toys and a whole heap of ideas, so jump on board as they race pit bikes, trash rally buggies and shred anything with wheels on.

“We’re basically quarantining in heaven! I mean, it would be nice to be racing in Europe, but this is a close second!”  Theo Erlangsen

In the first episode, we meet the infamous builders, Justin Novella and Duran Van Eeden, who can wrestle a digger like nobody else, and were luckily quarantined on the same farm. First state of business was carving out the Corona track, an insane downhill course through the forest from top to bottom. The boys hit the building work hard and then set to work stacking clips and roosting turns.

Getting the pit bike track built was a dream come true for Ike, who started his career on bikes with Moto X and was a junior national champ. For some light relief, they jumped into one of the race buggies on the farm and tried, but failed to keep all the wheels on…

“Tim shreds the BMX so hard, he’s also such a silent assassin, he comes in super quiet and then does WAY bigger and better stunts than any of us”
Theo Erlangsen

In episode two, Tim Bentley joins the crew and shows the boys how to ride the perfectly manicured dirt jumps. Justin gives you an insight to the Trailscrew daily life, meet India the trail dog and watch the riders push themselves in a trick jump sessionwhilst quarantined in South Africa.

Look out for Episode 3 coming soon…

Darkfest Week 3 – The Build is Done

Work Hard, Play Hard

As the DarkFEST course nears completion, the boys have been smashing it all week with the diggers and with a few tiny sprinkles of rain and some spade work, have managed to compact most of the line. Mountain Bike heaven or hell depending on who you ask…

Mountain Bike Gods bless with more rain!

With a little more much needed rain on the forecast, the guys got everything ready for it and took advantage of getting some time behind the bars on the big line at Hellsend Dirt Compound with Brendog and a few locals.

The course is complete and now the line just needs to be tweaked for the arrival of the rest of the world’s best free ride Mountain Bikers next week.

Nick Clarke slays Cape Town – MTB Freeride Mayhem

First off it was a hell of a good time entertaining this guy while he was in Cape Town. The Canadian kept us all entertained with his list for life and endearing way of talking. You will note in the intro he is in the Predator Tank at the 2 Oceans Aquarium, something he wished to do naked, but was asked very politely to do in a speedo. The guy kills it on a MTB and was the Night Harvest Champion this year. So put up your feet, crack a cold foamy one and enjoy the ride eeeeey!

Round 2 Motocross Nationals heads to Cape Town!

We couldn’t have asked for a better season opener of the 2016 Monster Energy TRP Distributors SA National MX Championship in Port Elizabeth. Both fans and competitors expected round one to be interesting but what they got was better then they ever could have anticipated. Not only was the competition in the premier MX1 and MX2 classes on another level, but every single other class offered incredible racing.
Round 2 now heads to the ever popular Zone 7 in Cape Town on 2 April. The competitors enjoy the Zone 7 track and it’s a great venue that always draws large crowds. In the premier MX1 and MX2 classes, it is anyone’s win. The level of talent is so high that there are so many favourites that could easily take the win. It is going to be intense racing at every stop this year. The first round also attracted riders from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Swaziland and we hope to see them all again in Cape Town.

The Championship is sanctioned by Motorsport South Africa (MSA) and brought to you by Motocross South Africa (MX SA) in conjunction with Monster Energy, TRP Distributors, Thor, Bridgestone, FMF, Gaerne, Motul, DC Shoes, Bell Helmets, Rockwell Watches, Racestar Graffix, Pac-Rite, 100%, Fly Racing, Winstel, MMT and Progression. Official vehicle partner is Ford Performance.

Racing will kick off at around 10am. There is catering on site and this is guaranteed to be a great day out for the whole family. Entrance is R50 per adult and free for kids of 12 years and younger.

Zone 7: Van Schoorsdrift Road, Cape Town, Western Cape.

Biggest Dirt Step Up ever right here in South Africa – Pure Darkness 2

When the wildest bunch of Dirt Bike riders in the World pull in for their annual trip to South Africa, they like to do something special to make the trip memorable. So this year they travelled up to the Bike Park outside Wilderness and proceeded to build, with help of Monster Energy, the biggest step up jump the World has ever seen. The crew of Danny Pace, Matt Macduff, Sam Reynolds, Blake Samson, and Dylan Stone went mental, just check the video if you don’t believe me.

I also send best wishes to Park and Farm owner, Rob Dormehl, a good school mate, who tried the step up and broke his back. Hope you heal well bro!

RISE – Caleb Tennant back in the hunt for MX glory

The kid has always been good, but he has been plagued by injuries. So it is appropriate that his new video edit is called, Rise. Caleb will be back at Zone 7 tomorrow to compete in the Mx1 class and judging by the riding in the video, he could just be on top of the podium.

Caleb Tennant hasn’t been seen on the race scene since he finished 3rd in the the MX2 class in 2013. In 2014 Caleb was forced to turn in the towel due to financial setbacks and went to go work full time for his father while saving up to get back on a bike. He missed riding so must that he started making calls to Laren van der Westhuizen, current trainer John Wakefield, Shaun Pautz and Cecil Penny Racing with the help of TLB Monster Energy Yamaha they organised him a ride.
In January 2015 while preparing for the season ahead riding at his home track Zone 7 Caleb suffered a bad crash, with his front wheel collapsing on a table top, cracking ribs and breaking his collar bone putting him out of action for over 2 months. Mid way through March Caleb got back on his bike and started preparing for the 2nd round of the South African Motocross Nationals which is being held in Cape Town. “Id like to thank all my sponsors, mechanic Shaun Pautz, trainer John Wakefield but a special has to go out to Laren van der Westhuizen who pushed me to get back on my bike again. I look forward to racing against the countries best again on Saturday.”

The Dream Bmx Yard 2 – Featuring Pat Casey

Considering it is the Night Harvest thise eve, it is pretty great that Monster Energy posted this insane video today. Teh body varials are just nuts!

Nope, unfortunately this is not your backyard paradise – but it is Monster Energy rider Pat Casey’s…and this magical setup is arguably the best private park in the world.
Pat moved into his dream home in 2013, building his backyard ramp to perfection just six months later. The trails, his newest collaboration with Monster Energy were designed and built by one of the most prolific trail builders in the world, Adam Aloise.
In this new edit, Pat christens his amazing new features with an onslaught of stylish tricks mixed with straight up bangers. No one in BMX rides like Pat, and Dream Yard 2 is a testament to that fact!

Monster Energy Night Harvest Tonight in Hout Bay – Mtb and Bmx

This event is fast turning into Africa’s most prestigious dirt jump event with a host of international Bmx and Mtb riders coming to the sleepy village of Hout Bay to compete at the Potato Trails. They wont have it all their way though as a strong local contingent, spearheaded by Mo Peters and Greg Illingworth, fight to defend SA honors. The event gets underway at 7pm, but get there early for the best seats. Catch myself and US MC, Catfish on the mic.
