This week in Jbay we are going back to the roots of surfing at the iconic, Supertubes point. The Jbay Open of Surfing will take us back to the times of the Country Feeling Classic, where South Africa’s best surfers got to revel at their perfect right hand point, with a few foreign surf stars who ignored the politics to simply come surf this world famous wave and event. I have no doubt that at some point we are going to see the World Tour back at Jbay, but until then I am pretty stoked we have gone back to the roots of this contest. It is also pretty amazing that Occy is here after his incredible history with the wave and the contest. Jordy Smith may not be surfing, but past winners such as Shane Thorne will be eager to relive their moment of glory and the young rippers like Slade Prestwich and Dylan Lightfoot would like nothing more than to win the holy grail of SA Surf contests. Even if the World tour comes back, I hope this competition stays, it should be the opener for that event. SA surfers should always have their time to shine on our best wave! Check out a young Occy ripping the point and while the forecast is not looking epic, lets hope we get a taste of conditions from last year!
